Contest gives local kids head start on Lemonade Day
Baton Rouge, LA (NBC33) — Every business needs to test its new products, even if the owner is still in grade school.
Local entrepreneurs took part in a tasting contest Saturday in the run-up to National Lemonade Day.
They each brought samples of their recipes for the celebrity judges, and the best ones got prizes and gift cards to the Mall of Louisiana.
Six-year-old Brianna Ducote won first place with a blackberry lemonade. She has already figured out where she wants to donate the money she earns from her lemonade.
"I just wanted to enter so some people can have more money for all the dogs," she said.
National Lemonade Day is on May 4. It aims to teach children how to create and operate their own business by inspiring them to open lemonade stands.
It came to Louisiana in 2011, and grew to nearly 10,000 participants last year.
