The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank will be moving to a new location.

Albert Fraenkel, a Baton Rouge business owner, has donated his 40 year old furniture store to the food bank.

Fraenkel said he “couldn’t think of a better way to put this building to use,” and that donating his store to the GBRFB gave him “a noble purpose and opportunity to help thousands of people I had never met and will likely never meet.”

According to the food bank, the new location will allow them to “better serve its 11 parishes by increasing capacity, efficiency and output.”

The new facility will be called the Fraenkel Center, and reportedly has three times the square footage of the old food bank warehouse.

A ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony is scheduled for the new location at 10600 South Choctaw Drive, on January 14 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will include appearances from Mayor Kip Holden, and dignitaries and donors, who helped make move to the new facility possible.

The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank says it will continue to serve over 130 agencies across 11 parishes from the new location.
