Bike to School Day 2014
BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC33) — Wednesday, May 7 is Bike to School Day, and students from University Terrace will be celebrating and riding their bikes to school the right way! The Bike Safety Bonanza is designed to increase safety awareness for young bikers. This activity will allow students to bike together and enjoy valuable health and safety messages, while promoting safe biking to school!
School staff, parents, community partners, local law enforcement and city official representatives will be joining us for our “Bike to School Day”, escorting University Terrace students to school at 7:30 AM (we will meet at Alaska St. Park at W. Roosevelt & Alaska) Grab your bike or walking shoes and stroll into safety for our kids!
Before rolling out at 8:00 AM, we will review traffic safety rules/hand signals and provide helmets to those in need. Participants will also receive a bike light, bike lock, snack and water bottle. A brand new bike rack has been installed at the school! Our goal is to educate students in hopes that they will take what they learn and apply the safety tips to their everyday biking habits and bike to school if/when able.
