Baton Rouge man claims $1M Powerball prize
Baton ROuge — Alex Bookter visited Louisiana Lottery headquarters in Baton Rouge on Wednesday to claim the first $1 million Powerball prize won in Louisiana this year.
The 69-year-old Baton Rouge resident’s Quick Pick ticket matched all five whiteball numbers but missed the Powerball number in the Jan. 29 drawing. Bookter received $700,000 after federal and state taxes were withheld. An avid golfer, Bookter said he may visit a few of his favorite courses across the South after paying a few bills.
He purchased the winning ticket at Cracker Barrel #54 on South Foster Drive in Baton Rouge. The store will receive a selling bonus of $10,000, which is 1 percent of the prize.
