UPDATE: A fund has been set up for the family to help pay for funeral services. You can donate here.

Two siblings were killed while they were fishing when an SUV went over an embankment and hit them on Tuesday.

According to the Louisiana State Police, Shawnette Taylor, 47, was driving southbound on Bluff Road when her Nissan Armada went off the road on the right hand side. It traveled over an embankment, striking five people who were fishing in a bayou below.

David Lanus Jr., 6, and Faria Lanus, 9, both of Geismar, were pronounced dead at the scene. David Lanus Sr. and two other men were taken to the hospital with injuries described as moderate or minor.

A spokesman for the LSP says Taylor suffered only minor injuries. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Charges have not been filed against Taylor, pending a further investigation. The LSP does not believe she was intoxicated.
