The first graduates of a new GED program in the city are getting a second chance.

The Family and Youth Service Center had their first graduation ceremony this morning.

The goal of the center’s GED program is to give people a second chance to be successful.

Roxson Welch, Director of FYSC, told NBC33 that the program is a good way to get younger kids in the city back on the right track.

“Some way or another, they’ve backed up and they're not quite clear on the path that they want to go,” stated Welch. “We help them try to find that path. That's our job.”

Brian Oliver, the parent of one of the GED grads that participated in the program, couldn’t be more excited.

“I'm just happy that he's finally got his GED, and he can move forward now,” stated Oliver. “We’re going to try him at BRCC this semester and take it from there.”

Welch went onto say that she hopes the program will see more graduates down the road.
