Fire causes $235K in damage

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to a one alarm fire.
A fire was reported at a home in the 3900 block of White Sands Drive around 1:12 p.m. on January 18.
Firefighters arrived five minutes later to find the house completely engulfed in flames.
According to the BRFD, the fire was so intense that, firefighters had to spray neighboring homes with water to prevent the other houses from catching on fire. It reportedly took 23 minutes for firefighters to contain the fire.
Investigators say the fire was caused by “unattended cooking,” and the affected home, valued at $200,000, is considered a total loss. Including the home's contents, the fire caused a total loss of $235,000, according to officials.
The Red Cross was called to the scene, by emergency responders to assist residents.
No injuries were reported during the fire.
