Escaped prisoner on loose in Baton Rouge

Demond Cook, 34, was sentenced on Sept. 9, 2010 and found guilty. He escaped custody this morning.

This is an NBC33 News update: East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Detectives have arrested Demond Cook’s sister, Tamaika Cook, 32, of Baton Rouge, La for Principle to Simple Escape. According to Catahoula Correctional, Tamaika facilitated the escape by being the go-between for Cook and other outside help. Detectives are interviewing Tamaika and working with other local law enforcement agencies to locate Cook and determine who else may have helped him escape from Catahoula Deputies.

Original story: BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) -- Sheriff’s Deputies were transporting a man to the courthouse in downtown Baton Rouge when he escaped on foot. Law enforcement are scouring the Beauregard neighborhood to find Demond Cook, 34, who is facing life in prison.

Cook was being transported to the courthouse by Catahoula Sheriff’s Deputies for a motion hearing. He was convicted of two counts of armed robbery and one count of Second Degree Kidnapping on September 9, 2010.

Sheriff's Deputies believe Cook may have left the downtown area. They have expanded their search to other areas of the city.
