Zachary's Bronco Stadium was packed Thursday night, but not for a football game.

The school district put on a party in honor of its eighth consecutive year as the top-performing district in the state.

Students from each school performed for the crowd, with Zachary Early Learning Center winning the night's prize for school spirit. Free food and souvenirs were given out, and the evening ended with a fireworks show.

Mayor David Amhrein was not surprised to see thousands of people celebrating the city's academics.

"The community comes together, and eight years in a row," he said. "My hat's off to the schools, the administrators, teachers, parents, and especially the kids. This is all about them, and there again, that's what sets us apart, are our kids."

If Zachary wins again next year, it will do so under the leadership of a new superintendent. Former Zachary High School principal Scott Devillier was promoted to superintendent last week.
