BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Members of the United Way shared the gift of reading today in Baton Rouge as a part of their partnership with Barnes and Noble.
The program is called the "Ten Year Early Childhood Development Initiative." More than 40 children were given books and read to today at the Lil' One's Learning Center.
The goal of the program is to better prepare kids as they enter kindergarten. It's an initiative the United Way is proud to be a part of.
"It really feels great,” Matthew Stefan, United Way, said. “It's wonderful for us to be out here doing this live with the children so we get to see obviously the excitement on their faces, not only in reading to the children but also being able to hand them a present that's going to help them further their education."
The United Way plans on handing out more than 600 books between now and December 21.
