BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The East Baton Rouge Public School System is celebrating after twelve of its schools came out of "failing" status.
The district has its lowest percentage of schools with “F” grades in at least five years. Only one traditional school, Claiborne Elementary, still got an “F” this year.
Superintendent Bernard Taylor praised the hard work of the principals at all the schools that improved.
"This should be a very happy and proud day for these individual schools and for the district, but it also has to be tempered with the recognition that we know we still have more work to do," said Taylor.
The state only released the scores for failing schools today so that parents in those neighborhoods have more time to choose where they want to send their child. The rest of the scores won't come out for another two months.
