The only candidate left to replace John Dilworth as East Baton Rouge Parish superintendent has removed himself from the race.

This as the school board meets to decide who will temporarily fill the position till a permanent replacement can be found.

Five months after a search firm was hired to find John Dilworth's replacement, the school board is back to square one and will re-open the search for candidates.

Current Superintendent John Dilworth is leaving a few months before his contract end due to "health reason".

At tonight's meeting things got heated when the crowd's choice for a temporary superintendent local candidate Herman Brister got turned down by the board.

"Well tonight was a disgrace not only to east baton rouge parents and students and teachers," said concerned parent Hyma Moore. "If you are for E.B.R. sit there. If you are not, why don't you get off our seat and get somebody for E.B.R. "

"We are going to have to make some changes to move the system quickly," said East Baton Rouge Parish School Board member Jill Dyason.

In the end the school board could not make a decision tonight for a temporary superintendent and will reopen discussion at their regularly scheduled meeting next week.

We want to know what you think. How important is it for the board to set aside their differences and find someone to lead EBR Schools? Post your comments on the NBC33 Facebook page. Some will be used on our broadcast.
