Superintendent's contract approved
BATON ROUGE,LA (NBC33) — State lawmakers have approved the contract for Louisiana Superintendent of Schools John White.
The state will pay him $275,000 a year for the next four years. He takes over for former Superintendent Paul Pastorek. Pastorek was paid $377,000. White says he decided to follow Pastorek's lead when it came to the annual pay raise of six percent he is eligible for.
"I think that the past approach by the past superintendent of not accepting that pay raise contingent upon employees and teachers themselves receiving a raise is the right thing to do," says White.
The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education voted last week to appoint White to the top spot.
He was previously the Recovery School District Superintendent and the Deputy Superintendent of New York City Schools.
