Southern University kicked off homecoming week with a non-denominational service at its student union today.

There were a number of musical performances by a variety of choirs. Some of the speakers at the event included chancellor James Llorens and student government president Demetrius Sumner students say they're most excited about getting to see the southern band.

"Homecoming battle of the bands halftime show,” Kyle Burleigh, Southern University Student, said. “It's great. Southern University got the best band in the south, probably the nation."

On Saturday, join the Southern University community for its annual homecoming parade starting at 8:00 a.m. Then watch Southern University take on Alcorn State on at 5:30 that evening.
