On Monday, Feb. 24, the Southern University Board of Supervisors held a special meeting to vote on the contract for Chancellor Llorens.

The board decided to stick with their original decision not extend his contract.

The Chancellor’s contract is currently set to expire June 30, 2014.

A few days after the board’s initial vote, on Friday, Feb. 7, Southern’s Student Government Association held a gathering to discuss that decision. Several students showed their support for Llorens and quesioned the board’s decision.

As a result, the board agreed to reconsider Llorens’s contract.

On Monday, the board voted on a motion to extend his contract for one year with certain benchmarks in place. The second round of voting ended with the same results as the first.

Llorens has held the position since 2011.

We will update this story with reactions to the board's decision to stick with their original vote.
