Louisiana officials have started an outreach program for students that is vastly different from most; the reason being - it's not in a classroom.

The Louisiana Outdoors Outreach Program, otherwise known as LOOP, is a collaboration between Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne, the Louisiana Office of State Parks and students from Istrouma High School.

It's not all about fun outdoor activities, though; the LOOP staff work with the kids to enhance self-esteem and help them be more conscious about the environment.

It's a chance to prove that learning occurs everywhere. So far, the students say it's working.

"The program has helped me a lot, both with my school and me just being outgoing," stated student Tia Ginn.

Today's outdoor classroom was at BREC's Greenwood Community Park in Baker.

Programs are available in Baton Rouge, Zachary and in New Orleans.
