Baton Rouge, La — Over the last week, State Superintendent of Education John White has been meeting with hundreds of educators across the state to develop a shared plan to improve student learning. And today, responding to the overwhelming response from educators to participate in the planning process, the Louisiana Department of Education announced teachers will have more opportunities to interact with the state education chief - this time through live, virtual Town Hall meetings.
On April 19, the State Superintendent released a preliminary plan, Louisiana Believes, and announced an extensive outreach initiative, whereby he is asking educators to assist him in building on and improving the proposed strategy, with the aim of ensuring recent legislation and ongoing initiatives are effectively implemented to support the success of all students. In total, White has scheduled 22 on-site meetings with local education leaders, teachers, and principals statewide before the end of this school year.
"In just over a week, in just four parishes, we've had the chance to talk to more than 1,000 teachers in Town Hall meetings," White said. "I'm extremely grateful for the extraordinary participation and interest our teachers have shown in helping us to improve the preliminary framework of Louisiana Believes. These virtual meetings will provide us with more opportunities to collaborate with our educators to devise a plan to achieve what we know is possible for every child. "
During the 90-minute virtual Town Halls, White will provide an overview of Louisiana Believes and respond to questions submitted via email before and during the live broadcast. The schedule of virtual Town Halls is as follows:
• May 8, 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
• May 11, 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
• May 14, 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
• May 14, 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
The live broadcast of the Virtual Town Hall Meeting will be accessible online via the agency's website at www.louisianaschools.net. Archived videos of the Town Halls will also be posted to the agency's website.
Questions may be submitted to Superintendent White beforehand, beginning today, as well as during the live broadcast, by emailing email@example.com.
