Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Representative Pat Smith is pushing a new resolution that takes a look at sex education in your child's school.
The resolution would create a study group to weigh the pros and cons of teaching kids about sex.
Smith said with the high HIV and teen pregnancy rates across the state, it's time to start teaching students about safe sex.
"Teens so often rely on the myths of their peers, rather than knowing the facts of what's happening to them or what's going on with them, and they make bad decisions," stated Smith.
Louisiana is an abstinence-only state right now when it comes to sex education.
