Bernard Taylor spent the day touring East Baton Rouge Parish, meeting with Department of Education officials and community members.

The candidate was taken on a tour of some area schools. He started off with a guided walkthrough of Westdale Middle. Taylor met with students and teachers in their classrooms.

He also spoke on what he sees as the main priority for EBR schools.

"Student achievement (is) top priority. (We need to) make sure issues coming forward from the state in terms of schools that are academically unacceptable - that we come up with a comprehensive plan to meet mandates - but provide quality service for those students," said Taylor.

Taylor will wrap up his day after his formal interview with the board and questions from the public tonight.

NBC33’s Jason Newton will have all the details from the meeting at NBC33 News at 10.
