LSU is headed in a new direction, as the university looks to move forward under different leadership.

Provost Stuart Bell says flexibility will be important to LSU for several reasons. First, it will help the school withstand state budget cuts.

Flexibility will also allow students to get degrees that inspire them, while still having a chance for a high-paying job.

"To create those in Louisiana, I think is important for students,” stated Bell. “Certainly it's important for Louisiana, as we look to develop the tax base and the success base for all of our inhabitants."

Bell mentioned IBM, which announced a major expansion in Baton Rouge last week.

He said the school needs to give graduates the skills to get those high-tech jobs so that the company stays here long-term.
