Bossier City/ Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Four students at a local school were taken to area hospitals after they participated in a P.E. class outside. The incident took place this morning at Broadmoor Middle Laboratory School.
The children were transported because of breathing issues caused by the heat, three were by ambulance. A fifth child that suffered similar symptoms did not receive treatment after their parent declined.
According to Victor Maniero, Caddo Parish Director of Communications, the gym teacher thought it wasn't too hot for gym class. The weather was approximately 90 degrees at the time. Generally, the school holds P.E. classes inside once it reaches the mid to high 90s.
Parents were notified once one student was discovered to have heat-related problems.
One parent told KMSS that her child had complained about the heat, but was told to keep participating.
The students current conditions are unknown.
