BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — On the first day back at school, students at Mckinley High School will not be seeing the front office. That’s because it will be closed for a few days after a Mercury spill happened earlier this week.
We're told about two ounces of Mercury spilled when a barometer broke. Even though the amount seems small, it's enough to contaminate a large room.
Today, DEQ says the office is still being cleaned.
They say the office won't reopen until everything is back to normal, but they hope to have it cleaned up by the end of the week.
