BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) —
The McKinley Senior High Marching Band is headed to Houston, Texas to perform in the Major League Baseball Urban Invitational. Several schools were selected for participation around the nation, but McKinley High was the only Louisiana-based band to gain the honor.
“We are truly honored to have been selected to participate in such a magnificent event. This will be an excellent learning experience for the students who participate in our marching band program,” said Jason Jones, Assistant Band Director. “Our students strive to be the best and this is proof that hard work pays off.”
The event will be held this weekend on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The 48-piece band was selected after placing first at the 11th Annual MLK Battle of the Bands Competition, which was held on Jan. 14 at the Joe Kelly Butler Stadium in Houston, TX.
Along with the main event, there will be a college fair, in which the students can learn about undergraduate and graduate programs from several different colleges and universities.
The McKinley Senior High School Marching Band is under the direction of Frank Williams-Band Director, Jason Jones-Assistant Band Director, Keith Johnson-Drum Instructor, Dionne Fair-Assistant Drum Instructor, and Band Support Staff Members Ashley Dalcourt and Brandon Richard. The Pantherette Coach is Shira Jordan.
