Students at LSU are taking a stand for a bill that might affect them as well as college students across the state.  Representative Dee Richard wrote House Bill 142.  If passed, it would cut ten percent of all state contracts and give that money to the Higher Education Financing Fund. The LSU student senate passed a resolution by majority vote Wednesday, saying they support this bill. The student who wrote the resolution says this means so much for students' futures.

"After so many years of budget cuts, I think it's definitely an important thing for us to still stand strong and to make as many statements as we can to say, 'We're here and we need help,'" said student senator Jeaux Zerkus.  "We really want to be able to make LSU better and make it stronger, and that's what this fund will be able to do."

The bill will go to the committee in a matter of weeks.  In the meantime, some student senators are prepping to travel to the Nation's Capital to talk with legislators on pressing issues.
