LSU professor says new school district could overly strain existing system
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A study by LSU economics professor James Richardson sheds some new light on the strain an independent school district could cause on the existing East Baton Rouge School system.
"We've got to make sure we have a good way of dividing up costs that are already imposed on the current system," Richardson, said.
The analysis shows that tax revenues for students would decrease and capacity at the newly created schools would become an immediate issue.
Other areas the analysis didn't examine the impact of the racial make-up of these new schools, as well as the potential tax revenues that will have to be raised in the new districts to meet demands.
