Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — LSU students can expect to pay more for classes in the fall as tuition and fees are seeing a significant increase.

Increases of 10 percent for in-state students and 15 percent for out-of-state students will go into effect immediately.

The increase was approved as part of the LA GRAD act, which allows tuition bumps, as long as the university meets performance measures.

LSU says raising tuition is necessary after dealing with state budget cuts.

The increases amounts to a $318 tuition raise for full time in-state students, while out-of-state students will pay more than $1,400 more per semester.
