Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The House Select Committee on Homeland Security came together this morning to discuss keeping your kids safe in school.
Superintendents and school officials from across the state expressed their concerns and ideas for a safer school environment.
Superintendent of Schools John White said the regulations already in place for safety should be used as a platform for new ideas.
"I know there are many ways to address this question of crisis management and security in our schools, and the events of last month clearly reinforce the need for vigilance,” stated White. “I think it’s important that before jumping to new ideas, we consider what is already on out there.”
Education and law enforcement were the two big topics on the schedule. The goal of the discussion is to improve existing school safety laws in the next legislative session.
