U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu in Baton Rouge to encourage state lawmakers to stay on the aggressive track for education reform.

Louisiana's senior senator spoke to the Press Club of Baton Rouge. Landrieu says she commends Governor Jindal for making education his priority this session.

She does, however, disagree with Jindal's proposal to voucher for every child who attends a failing school.

Landrieu says until Louisiana improves the education of its children, the state will never thrive economically.

"Turning failing schools around, strengthening mediocre ones and celebrating great ones should be Louisiana's economic development strategy," stated Landrieu.

Senator Landrieu's appearance at the Press Club today was met with some peaceful protestors.

She defended her vote against the "Blunt Amendment," which would have allowed employers to refuse to cover certain health care services such as contraception. A few people from Baton Rouge Right to Life protested outside the event to draw attention to her vote against the amendment.
