BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Tomorrow, the Louisiana Jumpstart Coalition launches a special program to teach teens and adults how to manage their money better.
The group spent today setting up for the event. The Louisiana Jumpstart Coalition says in 2008, Louisiana high school students scored 45 percent in a nation-wide financial survey.
Dr. Janette Tucker of the Louisiana Jumpstart Coalition says the summit should help parents and educators know more about their own money so they can teach kids to manage their money better in the future.
"There is a tremendous need for financial literacy in this nation, people are not learning how to manage money at home, at school,” Dr. Tucker explained. “They go into the workforce, they can't manage their money there, and it's having all sorts of negative effects."
The summit is at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Baton Rouge on Thursday, Sept. 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
