Kindergarteners in West Baton Rouge got a chance to show off their driving skills today.

It was part of a program called SafetyTown. Students rode bikes through a made-up town, filled with real buildings and working stop lights. If they don't stop at stop signs, they got a ticket!

"It's important to be safe because sometimes you don't want to hurt yourself,” Philip Mason, student at Brusly Elementary, said. “You have to stop when you see a stop sign.”

They also learned about how to stay safe during fire and a flood.

“They come in all excited and at the end of the day they go home singing the safety songs that they've learned here,” Lisa Odgen, WBR Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said. “They really have a good time!”

Each child went home with a special identification card.
