Governor Jindal speaking in Baton Rouge today, sticking to his theme of better education for Louisiana's children.

As he addressed the council for a better Louisiana during their 50th-annual meeting, Jindal says his main priority for the next term will be improving education for every child in the state.

Governor Jindal cited several studies that directly link a child's overall education, with their potential earning power in adulthood.

"How important it is to have effective teachers in every classroom,” Jindal said. “I shared stats that said students in classrooms with highly effective teachers can learn more than a year's worth of material. Opposite is true, in classrooms with ineffective teachers fall further and further behind."

He went on to say the current system doesn't reward excellent teachers, or give incentives to others to achieve.

Jindal is making education his main focus after half of the state's schools received failing grades.
