Jindal announces appointments to the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education

Governor Bobby Jindal announced appointments to the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), including Stephen Waguespack, of Baton Rouge and Dr. Judith Miranti, of New Orleans.
According to statute, the board shall be composed of 11 members. One member shall be a resident of and shall be elected by the electors of each of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education districts. Three members shall be appointed by the Governor from the state at large, with consent of the Senate.
Appointments to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education:
Stephen Waguespack, of Baton Rouge, is an attorney and special counsel at Jones Walker. Previously, Waguespack was the Chief of Staff and Executive Council to Governor Bobby Jindal. He received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and his J.D. from Catholic University in Washington, DC. Waguespack will be appointed to serve as an at-large member as required by statute.
Dr. Judy Miranti, of New Orleans, is Chair and Director of the Division of Education and Graduate Studies at Xavier University. She is also the Director of the Graduate Counseling Program at Xavier. Previously, Dr. Miranti was Vice President of Academic Affairs at Our Lady of Holy Cross College. She received her doctorate in education from the University of Nevada and her master’s in education from Our Lady of the Lake University. Dr. Miranti will be appointed to serve as an at-large member as required by statute.
