Over $45,000 in scholarships are up for grabs, and all you have to do, is be creative.

"Everybody can do art. It's not about how much skill you have, it's how much imagination you have," George Rodrigue, Louisiana painter and CEO of the George Rodrigue Foundation, said after presenting a check for art supplies for the EBR Lab School in Baton Rouge.

Rodrigue has partnered with the Lieutenant Governor’s Office for the 2012 art contest held annual by the George Rodrigue Foundation for the past three years. This year’s theme is “Louisiana’s Bicentennial” and the Louisiana Bicentennial Commission will choose one student’s work for the official poster. The winner will gain a $6,000 scholarship. 10 seniors and 5 juniors will also win awards for lesser amounts.

"Louisiana has so much to celebrate with its artistic background,” Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne said today at the official announcement of the competition. “With so many creative people who have been born in Louisiana and nurtured their talents in Louisiana, the arts component is very important to our historic remembrance next year."
