BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A notice of a school closer has left parents in East Baton Rouge Parish with less than 24-hours to figure out a daycare situation. The YMCA is offering a solution to those parents.
YMCA locations in Baton Rouge are offering full day childcare from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14. Although this service isn’t typically offered during the school, year it’s not out of the ordinary.
“We normally offer holiday camp when school is closed,” Eddrick Martin, Executive Director of Baranco Clark YMCA, explained. “We have had emergency camps before when they have had to cancel school abruptly.”
Martin says the participating locations have the ability to accommodate roughly 400 children. We’re told children will participate in games, arts and crafts, swimming, sports and much more.
Parents are asked to provide a water bottle, lunch and snack for each child.
Parents can register in advance or by walking up to any of the participating locations tomorrow morning. They ask that all parents to register no later than 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.
Childcare services cost $20 for YMCA Members, $25 for non-members.
