BATON ROUGE, LA — Three East Baton Rouge Parish School System students have painted themselves a pretty picture of the future thanks to wins in the Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA) Artwork Contest and Exhibit. One winner for each grade level in the School System, three in total, now advance to the state-level competition and will be exhibited at the LSBA Annual Convention scheduled March 4-6 at the Paragon Casino-Resort in Marksville.
The local first-place winners moving up in the competition include: Keilan Lee, a kindergartener at Forest Heights Academy of Excellence, for “Dancing Crawfish,” K-4 grade division; Jerimiah Johnson, an eighth grader at Westdale Middle School, for “Louisiana Delicacies,” 5-8 grade division; and Samantha Seghers, a senior at Woodlawn High School, for “Spicey Nuts,” 9-12 grade division. These and other student winners were recognized by the School Board earlier this month.
All the artwork had to represent Louisiana, whether it was a scene, product, building, people or other subject. Work could be done in oil paint, acrylic, watercolor, pen and ink, charcoal, pastel, Crayon, colored pencil, batik or stitchery.
