BATON ROUGE,LA (NBC33) — The tough economic times are hitting the Louisiana Department of Education hard. Its budget next year is scheduled to be reduced by more than $300 million.

The department will also reduce its number of positions by almost 60 positions.

Louisiana is currently around $900 million in the red.
