BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The state Department of Education is getting involved in the East Baton Rouge School District to investigate allegations of cheating in the system.
The department has confirmed to us that it will request an audit of the school system that will look into cheating students, lax online programs and oversight leading to students graduating without meeting requirements.
“It has come to our attention there may be discrepancies in academic records in East Baton Rouge Parish. We are looking into the situation and will provide further information at a later date,” stated Superintendent John White in a statement released to our newsroom.
The East Baton Rouge parish school district will get an official note about the audit and the allegations.
NOLA.com reports the audit was requested after a whistleblower brought up concerns about two online programs and allegations that students were not being monitored.
A spokesperson for the East Baton Rouge School Board told NBC33 that there will be no comment from their office until they receive official word of the audit.
