ZACHARY, LA (NBC33) — The Louisiana Black Alliance for Educational Options is asking the school board in Zachary to rethink their decision on Jindal's voucher program.
The alliance says the school board reversing their decision to take 30 students from underperforming schools is a step in the wrong direction.
In a press release issued earlier this week, the Zachary Community School District said they're concerned about finances and the quality of education students in Zachary would get if they took additional students.
Zachary had first agreed to accept 15 kindergarteners and 15 first grade students.
"By not participating, it’s life as usual, and for many parents life as usual has not been a beautiful thing,” Eric Lewis, Louisiana Black Alliance for Education Options, said. “But giving 30 kids, which was what they agreed to, it just drastically changed the quality of life for 30 children."
The Superintendent of Zachary schools wasn't available for a comment.
