City Year, a group of young adults that volunteer in schools, are ready to get back to the classroom.

This year, 40 corps members will dedicate a year of service to several Baton Rouge schools, including Merrydale Elementary, Capital Middle, Broadmoor Middle, and Belaire High.

The volunteers are between 17 and 24 years old, and will serve in classrooms as tutors, mentors, and role models.

One member says it's a great way to give kids the extra push they need.

“These kids have a lot of potential and usually they just need someone to guide them with extra encouragement,” stated City Year member Aaron Randolph. “For me to be able to do that is a great privilege.”

The volunteers will spend more than 70,000 hours just in Baton Rouge schools helping kids.
