BREC announced a partnership with Career Innovations of America, a local, non-profit organization formed to provide career training for teenagers and young adults ranging from 16 to 22 years old. BREC agreed to provide the non-profit with the use of BREC’s Belfair Free Dreams Teen Center at 4390 Fairfields Avenue to host the organization’s eight-week summer program.

Thirty-three students are enrolled in the pilot program which begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students receive three hours of academic and technical training and three hours of practical training each day. The students also have an hour for lunch and another hour for recreational activities at the center.

"I’m so excited about this great program. The benefits that it will bring the children in the city of Baton Rouge are awesome," said Councilwoman C. Denise Marcelle. "I’m so proud that the program is being launched in District 7."

"BREC’s Teen Center is the perfect location for this type of program and we are happy to be part of the effort to teach our young adults the job skills they need to succeed in today’s economy," said BREC Superintendent Carolyn McKnight. "These are the types of partnerships that BREC is committed to as we seek new ways to succeed in our mission of adding to the overall safety and health of our community."

In order to succeed in the program, students will be required to have near perfect attendance, make a career selection, actively work with a marketplace mentor, visit a jobsite for possible placement and obtain a job. Students who complete the program will receive a certificate at the end of the initial eight-week pilot program.

"We have identified the top ten employers in East Baton Rouge Parish and will work with our students to teach them the skills these employers are looking for to fill vacant positions within their organizations," said Career Innovations of America Executive Director B. Theron Williams. "Each student will be placed with a Career Development Officer and our goal is that they are placed in jobs by the time they graduate from the program. We are already working to expand this program into a year-round training opportunity for interested students."

As the program expands, students will be required to complete a 24-month program in order to earn a certificate of completion.

"I have had the opportunity to meet with B. Theron Williams and the leadership team from Career Innovations of America. I gave them a tour of the manufacturing plant and have sponsored some of their printing. I have pledged to make opportunities for job placement available to those young adults possessing entry level skills with a desire to make a career in the printing industry," said Ernie Seals, owner of Franklin Press. "I ask other businesses and industries to support this much needed program initiative with opportunities and funding. Everyone wins who supports this cause."

Members of the media are invited to visit BREC’s Teen Center on Monday, June 10 at 11:30 a.m. to see how the program works and to speak to Williams and the students to learn more about the initiative.

It is the BREC mission to provide parks and recreational opportunities for all citizens of East Baton Rouge Parish.

By providing such type of events and project we can enhance ones inner quality and show them the right way or path. Now everyone wants to build their career and to be a leader. But it is not an easy tax. As we are living in a competitive era we should have much more talents, knowledge and information to compete others. I think this article will help to search such types of career path.
