BATON ROUGE, LA — Baton Rouge Magnet High School has announced a third student this year earning a perfect ACT score.
Junior Daniel Hulgan recently accomplished one of his personal goals by scoring a 36 composite on the ACT – a perfect score. He has attended East Baton Rouge Parish public schools since the sixth grade, when he entered Westdale Middle School’s Gifted and Talented Program.
In high school, Hulgan is enrolled in English III Advance Placement (AP), Physics AP, Latin IV AP, American History AP, Calculus A/B AP and Chemistry II AP and Lab. He is ranked fifth in his class with a cumulative grade point average of 4.714.
Hulgan’s school activities include Baton Rouge High Varsity Soccer, Mu Alpha Theta, Junior Classical League and the Student Government Association. Outside of school, he enjoys playing piano, participating in the Parkview Baptist Church Youth Ministry and playing soccer for Capital City United Soccer Club.
Although he has not finalized his college plans, Hulgan has worked for Louisiana State University’s Chemistry Department conducting chemical research for the last several years. He was given this opportunity after winning the National You Be the Chemist Challenge in 2009.
In the future, he plans to get an undergraduate degree in Engineering with a longer term plan of enrolling in Medical School (possibly at LSU, Harvard, Princeton, Penn or Baylor universities) and becoming either a neurosurgeon or a dermatologist. Hulgan is the oldest son of Jonathan and Sharon Hulgan.
Baton Rouge Magnet High School has bragging rights to additional students with perfect ACT scores this year. Anni Zhang earned a top composite score of 36 on a recent ACT test. In the junior class, Zhang is ranked second with a cumulative grade point average of 4.7143. In addition, Zoe Swarzenski, a mid-year junior, earned perfect scores on her ACT and PSAT tests, a 790 out of 800 on the SAT 2 Math test and the highest score possible on the Latin Advanced Placement test. She is ranked seventh in her class with a cumulative grade point average of 4.64. She took the ACT for the first time this school year. At about the same time, she took the PSAT and earned the top score of 240.
