BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education holds a policy forum on new core curriculum and teacher evaluations scheduled to begin this fall.
Louisiana is one of 45 states unveiling the common core state standards. The teacher evaluation program called Compass will evaluate teachers on student achievement and improvement in the classroom.
State Superintendent John White says the goal is to get kids ready for the real world.
"Better student achievement,” John White, State Superintendent of Education, said. “I think more kids ready for college more kids ready for a career. It’s what we are all trying to achieve so we have to have standards for student learning that actually correlated with what’s expected of them when they leave us and go on to the wider world."
Superintendent White says he will help push the Governor's education plan for this legislative session. He says their main point will be to better early education, keep good teachers in the classroom, and allow parents more options for their kid’s school.
