For Pre-K schools in high demand, the East Baton Rouge Parish school system is moving from a first-come-first-serve registration, to a lottery.

Parents will now have a week in January to apply for one of about two thousand open slots. This is to make the registration process more convenient for parents.

"Last year and in the previous years, it's been first come first serve so parents in some of our schools would actually spend the night, so we want to move away from that," Chris Trahan, a representative for East Baton Rouge Parish Schools, explained.

On January 21, 2012, East Baton Rouge Schools will hold an event called Preschool Palooza at Cortana Mall, where parents can pick up applications.

The registration period is from January 23-27, 2012.
