Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — East Baton Rouge parish will have a truancy center in 2012.
The school board voted unanimously tonight in favor of opening that facility.
The plan is to convert the abandoned School for the Visually Impaired on Government Street into the center. It will be called The Family and Youth Service Center and Neighborhood Place.
The goal is to identify the kids who skip school and provide them and their families with services that would prevent additional unexcused absences.
The school board, parish, city and sheriff's office have all agreed to put up $100,000 to create the center.
