Baker Police tell NBC33 they've arrested an elementary school teacher who assaulted a six year old girl at school. Police say 65-year-old Mildred Russ physically choked and dragged a six-year-old student on the playground during recess.

Eyewitnesses say Russ immobilized the child by wrapping her legs around the little girl. Then, Baker Police say Russ took the child's sweater, placed it around her neck, and proceeded to squeeze the child's neck whenever she attempted to move.

Witnesses say Russ then dragged the child across the school yard with such force the child was pulled out of her own shoes.

Mildred Russ was arrested and booked into the EBR Parish Prison on one count of Cruelty to a Juvenile charges. Baker Police are continuing their investigation. NBC33's Kelsey Scram is tracking this story. She'll have the newest information on NBC33 News at 5:00.
