WALKER, La. (AP) - The Walker Town Council is scheduled to take up a proposed ordinance at its Oct. 12 meeting that, if approved, would switch town government offices from a five-day to a four-day work week.
Mayor Bobby Font, in calling on the council to approve the measure, said making the change would offer additional public service while also saving money on fuel and utilities.
Town offices operate from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through
Thursdays and from 7:30 am. to 11:30 a.m. Fridays.
The proposed four-day schedule would call for setting up two shifts on workdays.
Font said that Entergy officials who analyzed city utility bills
estimated that about $4,000 to $6,000 could be saved annually by changing to the four-day work week.
