A lot of kids in East Baton Rouge Parish are getting ready to start school this Monday, but the EBR Sheriff's Office wanted to make sure they had some fun before they hit the books.

Saturday, deputies from the Kleinpeter Sheriff Substation held their annual back to school celebration. They had food, games, and even taught the kids of few things about gun safety. Captain Steve Young said, he hopes this lets the kids of the community know the Sheriff's Office is always there to help.

"A positive experience with law enforcement," Young said. "So many kids see us in a negative situation, and it's good for them to see that we're regular people too, that we can have a good time, and that they can come to us if needed."

The celebration was held at BREC's Kathy Drive Park. The office started this tradition back when Sid Gautreaux became the sheriff.
