Downtown BR to get parking meters that accept cards
BATON ROUGE (NBC33) — City officials are hoping to upgrade the way you pay to park in downtown Baton Rouge.
Right now they're looking at proposals to get new parking meters that'll take credit and debit cards.
City leaders say they hope they'll have the new meters installed by the end of the year in an effort to make paying to park more convenient for you.
"They don't have change, so this will be a lot more convenient for them. You know all of that, the issue of the payment of that can all be done very quickly and easily," said Davis Rhorer of the Downtown Development District.
While the convenience is a positive, we're told it will cost you a little more to park downtown once the change is made. Right now a quarter buys you thirty minutes. Officials tell us that will no longer be the case, but at this point, parking rates have not been set.
