NBC NATIONAL NEWS — A Democrat hasn't won in Texas in 36 years, but Tuesday night, President Obama hoped to win over the hearts and wallets of his loyal supporters.
"If you're willing to knock on doors for me, make phone calls for me, mobilize and organize, then we'll finish what we started in 2008," stated Obama.
In Pennsylvania on Tuesday, a fiery Mitt Romney accused the President of being anti-entrepreneur.
"I'm convinced he wants Americans to be ashamed of success," said Romney.
Romney surrogate John Sununu tried to hammer the president on the same theme, “Men and women all over America have worked hard to build these businesses. It is the American way."
But Sununu may have overshot his target, saying “I wish this President would learn how to be an American."
Team Obama quickly pounced, writing, "The Romney campaign has officially gone off the deep end."
Sununu retorted, “I probably was a little bit too harsh there. That's not the best choice of words, but the message was clear - this President doesn't understand the American free enterprise system."
The Romney campaign is also fueling new speculation about when it will reveal a vice presidential pick and who it will be, even going so far as to already name two members of his running mate's staff.
Even Romney dropped a few hints, “The people I've worked with over my career have been people who have the capacity to lead and in some cases, people who provide perspectives and skills that I may not share."
