Mitt Romney used a trip to Michigan, the state of his birth, Friday to remind voters of the unfounded rumors about President Obama's birthplace.

Romney had rejected the birther conspiracy theories in the past, but revived them with a single comment.

"No one has ever asked to see my birth certificate," he told supporters in Commerce. "They know that this was the place where we were born and raised."

The Obama campaign quickly slammed the comments.

"This is the kind of gutter-ball politics that I think will and should turn the American people off," Obama 2012 Traveling Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.

There is no question Romney is ratcheting up his rhetoric heading into Tampa.

Team Romney-Ryan hopes to boost the energy of their convention.

They've moved the nomination roll call to Monday night from the traditional Wednesday to kick off Tampa with a TV-friendly visual bang.

Meanwhile, it looks less likely that a bang will come from Tropical Storm Isaac, with forecasters predicting it will take a more westerly path
